Wild Walks

Adventure Walk:

Enhance your Zoo experience with a guided adventure that’s fantastic for audiences of all ages! Choose from 3 different 60-minute themed tours. Your knowledgeable guide will entertain you with fun facts and an education program animal encounter that will make you feel like a Zoo insider. Themes change monthly so you can join us again and again to learn something new!

Zoo admission is not included in the price of your tour. Proof of Zoo admission or Membership will be required before beginning your tour.

Tours are offered every Saturday and Sunday at 10:00am or 12:00pm, pending availability. Please check the calendar, or inquire at any ticket window, for open dates and times. Tickets available online or in person up to 10 minutes prior to tour start times in Entry Village.

Explorer Walk:

Choose your path of exploration on this 75-minute private guided tour! These tours are the perfect way to celebrate a birthday, anniversary or just a day at the Zoo with your favorite animal lover. Explorer Walks are personalized so you’ll choose the exhibits you’d like the guide to highlight based on your unique interests. Tours end with an animal encounter, where you’ll get a chance to meet an education animal ambassador!

Zoo admission is included in the price of your tour.

Explorer Wild Walks require advance payment and a minimum of two weeks’ notice. Tours can be reserved Wednesday – Friday within the Zoo’s normal operating hours or Saturday – Sunday at 10am or 12pm, pending availability. Click here to submit a reservation form.

Wild Encounter Walk:

This 90-minute educational experience offers the opportunity to get up-close with the world’s tallest animals– giraffes! The afternoon begins with a Zoo tour that will highlight new exhibits and all-time favorites. Along the way your guide will share all sorts of fun facts, stories and ways that you can play a part in wildlife conservation! The tour ends at the Bernard Osher Giraffe Lodge, where you get the opportunity to feed giraffes some treats.

Zoo admission is included in the price of your tour.

Ultimate Encounter Walk:

You’ll become an ultimate Zoo insider with this special private tour option. This 90-minute experience offers the opportunity to meet an education animal ambassador up-close before heading into the Zoo on a totally customized tour. Your private guide will highlight exhibits based on your interests all while sharing fun facts and conservation actions to help animals around the world and in our own backyards. The tour ends at the Bernard Osher Giraffe Lodge, where you get the opportunity to feed giraffes some treats.

BikeAbouts

Bring your bicycle to the Zoo for this 1-1/2 hour riding tour. Our informative docents will guide you as you see the animals start their day. You may find a tiger yawning and stretching, a bear bathing or monkeys bounding through the branches for their morning exercise. It’s great to be in the Zoo ahead of the crowds.

We have BikeAbouts scheduled on a monthly basis March through October and on special occasions like Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, where we finish our bike ride with a continental breakfast. You can also schedule your own private BikeAbout for groups of 10 or more.

Overnights

The San Francisco Zoo provides an exciting opportunity to camp in the heart of the city. From dusk until dawn, groups will enjoy the sights and sounds of the Zoo.

Group Overnights
Our group overnights are scheduled on a first-come first-served basis throughout the year. Overnights are a fun, unique, and educational experience for all groups; bring your class, group or troop to the Zoo. Family Overnights
During the summer months, the Zoo hosts families (ages 6+) for Overnights filled with fun. Dinner, evening camp fire, family-friendly activities, and continental breakfast are all part of the experience. Zoo admission for the day after your Overnight included. Family Overnights run the 3rd weekend of the month, June - September.

Conservation Speaker Series

Local and international conservationists provide inspirational talks about world-wide conservation efforts. Don't miss the opportunity to connect with scientists and learn about how they are saving wildlife.

Senior Stroll

Enjoy a guided walking tour with almost the whole Zoo to yourself. Watch the animals that are active early in the day, with a docent guide to answer your questions and offer fascinating insights into animal behavior. Zoo admission is included in your tour price.

Senior Stroll is held quarterly every 2nd Thursday from 9:00 to 11:00 am. For guests ages 65 years and older.

Wildlife Illustration

Develop your drawing skills with our new illustration workshops! Your instructor will cover a few art basics before you head into the Zoo to see your animal subjects in real life! During each class, participants will create a finished illustration based on a theme. Basic materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your favorite supplies too. Whether you’re a practiced artist or a curious first-timer, these workshops are a whole new way to appreciate the natural world!
