These one-hour walks on the wild side are fantastic for audiences of all ages. Choose from three daily tour topics (Wednesday through Sunday) to enhance your Zoo visit. Your knowledgeable guide will entertain you with fun facts, animal stories, and an education program animal encounter that will make you feel like a Zoo insider. Registration required in addition to Zoo admission.

Looking for a new way to explore the Zoo? Solve fun puzzles as you visit the Elinor Friend Playground, Exploration Zone, and Fisher Family Farm on your smart phone with a ClueKeeper scavenger hunt! Best for families with children ages 4-12, this 1.5 hour long hunt will help you discover the Zoo together.

Bring your bicycle to the Zoo for this 1-1/2 hour riding tour. Our informative docents will guide you as you see the animals start their day. You may find a tiger yawning and stretching, a bear bathing or monkeys bounding through the branches for their morning exercise. It’s great to be in the Zoo ahead of the crowds.
We have BikeAbouts scheduled on a monthly basis March through October and on special occasions like Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, where we finish our bike ride with a continental breakfast. You can also schedule your own private BikeAbout for groups of 10 or more.

The San Francisco Zoo provides an exciting opportunity to camp in the heart of the city. From dusk until dawn, groups will enjoy the sights and sounds of the Zoo. A special keeper talk will illustrate the great care the Zoo provides to its residents and the role zoos play in the conservation of wildlife. You will also learn some and simple ways that you can help conserve at home. Evening snacks, activities, and a continental breakfast are included. Our professional staff offers a fun adventure while leaving our guests with a memorable experience of a special night at the San Francisco Zoo.
Our group overnight programs are scheduled on a first-come first-served basis throughout the year. Overnights are a fun, unique, and education experience for all groups; bring your class, group or troop to the Zoo. Several times a year, the San Francisco Zoo hosts parents and children for a night of family fun. Family Wild Nights Gift Certificates are a great gift idea. Minimum age for children is 6 years old. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Family Overnight Fees
SFZS Members: $90 per person; or $80 per person if registering 5 or more people.

Experience the Zoo in a whole new light – twilight. Twilight Tours are a fun-filled and educational tour experience. Groups go on a nocturnal safari and meet a Zookeeper for an up-close animal encounter. Games, evening snack, and activities are all part of the wild adventure. Twilight Tours are from 6:30pm-9:00pm, for children ages 4 and up. Themed Tours are scheduled throughout the year, but if you have a group of 15 or more you may schedule your own tour.

If you think you can't draw a straight line, much less a moving wild animal, these workshops are for you. Join us for an informal and relaxing introduction to drawing your favorite animals. Learn fundamental drawing skills, proportion, pencil techniques and much more. Class begins with a sketching tour of the Zoo, then instruction moves to more refined portraits using the Zoo's wildlife supplemented by photos. Open to beginners and experienced artists. Your only prerequisite is a love of wildlife.
Wildlife Illustration with Graphite Pencils
January 24, 31, February 7 (3 Saturdays) 10:30am - 3:00pm. Learn to draw your favorite wild animals using fundamental drawing skills with special pencil techniques emphasizing expression and attitudes unique to your chosen subject. Instruction includes how to refine your sketches supplemented by photos to create finished fine art portraits. Discover the beauty of graphite portraiture.
Painting Nature's Small Creatures
March 14, 21, and 28 (3 Saturdays) 10:30am - 3:00pm. From Butterflies to Frogs and Chipmunks to Hummingbirds, Nature’s active small creatures offer artists a colorful palette of animals to portray on Multimedia Art Board and/or handmade papers with gouache and colored pencils. Learn to paint hair, feathers, scales and the iridescence of beetles and the brilliance of Hummingbirds. Instruction includes brush techniques and the use of color. Beginning and advanced artists welcome. Join us for three enjoyable Saturdays.
Wild Cats & Wild Dogs
September 12, 19, 26 (3 Saturdays) 10:30am - 3:00pm. Cats and dogs have become the center of our domestic lives. They even may share the same sofa together. But in the wild there are major differences between these two families of carnivores. Learn to portray their unique differences with gouache and colored pencil on toned paper. Instruction includes painting techniques for hair patterns, stripes, and spots with an emphasis on creating the essence and spirit of your model. Whether your are a “cat” person or “dog” person this workshop presents an interesting approach to felids and canids.
