The essence of the Zoo is to celebrate the beautiful diversity of life, and the beautiful life is what ZooFest 2013 guests will experience dining and dancing under the stars on the very spot where the Zoo began. In hard hats and tails, we'll pay tribute to the many exciting developments at the Zoo, including the Stanton Family Wellness Initiative—which promotes the wellness of creatures with tails and those without—and ongoing enhancements to popular Zoo exhibits. Co-Chairs Matthew and Jennifer Cook, Bruce and Kelly Bligh, and Sarah L. Gammill are planning a spectacular event, which includes catering by McCalls, music by Pop Rocks and a one-of-a-kind live auction.
Proceeds from ZooFest 2013 provide valuable support to the San Francisco Zoo, a community- and family-focused cultural institution that is a gateway for connecting the public to wildlife. With over 700 animals, the Zoo honors and preserves animals and ecosystems while fostering curiosity, appreciation and respect for nature in all of us. This year the Zoo’s many animal additions include Chacoan peccaries, a new black rhino and three young ostriches. We're also celebrating the exciting births of a yellow-backed duiker, a rednecked wallaby, a greater kudu and a rare Sumatran tiger cub! In the realm of education, the Zoo continues to deliver conservation- and science-based lessons to San Francisco USD elementary school classrooms and is breaking new ground on an innovative children's recreation and exploration area. All of these enhancements are driven by the Zoo's mission to connect people with wildlife, inspire caring for nature and advance conservation action.
